Protecting the land that reflects a long history of local exploration and pioneer settlement, Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve affords a fascinating look back into the 19th century as well as a chance to explore Washington's amazing natural beauty. Encapsulating 17,500 acres of land, the park contains 18 historical farms that are in use even today, reflecting the cultivation practices of farms that existed over a century ago. Over 400 historical buildings dot the reserve, showcasing the building practices of both the 1800s and 1900s. Fort Casey State Park and Fort Ebey State Park are both contained within the park and offer a look into the area's military past. By far the best features of the reserve are its natural ones, with miles of shoreline overlooking both the Admiralty Inlet and Penn Cove and offering both land- and water-based activities. Kayaking, boating, hiking, driving, bird watching and fishing are all activities that the reserve is known for, with campgrounds allowing guests to stay and enjoy the park day after day. Situated not far from the Canada border, the reserve is located on an island accessible by vehicle if a circuitous route to the north is taken or by ferry from Port Townsend, located just south of the island.
